Sapphire bot alternatives: the honest options for moderation
Sapphire, the free Discord bot at sapph.xyz rather than the unrelated sapphirejs.dev framework, is unusual in this category: it gives away a very large feature set, including genuine AI moderation, and charges only for custom branding and higher limits.
Which makes "Sapphire alternatives" an unusual search. People are rarely looking because a feature is missing or a bill arrived. They are usually looking because of one specific number.
Why people look for Sapphire alternatives
The AI scan rate limit. Sapphire's own documentation states it "only scans 10 messages per server per minute. This limit can be increased with Sapphire's Limit Increase plan." On a busy server that means most messages never reach the AI moderation, and this is by far the most common reason to look elsewhere.
AI language coverage. Per the docs, "AI Moderation currently fully supports English and German. Other languages are supported as well, but do not support categorization of inappropriate language." Insults, threats and identity attacks are English and German; the broader offensive language category adds Italian, French, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.
The AI covers four categories. Insults, threats, identity attacks and other offensive language. Scams, self-harm, sexual content and illegal activity are not classified categories, so they fall back to word groups you maintain.
Some servers want a different enforcement model, or a specialist for one job rather than a broad free bot.

Like-for-like alternatives to Sapphire
Be aware going in: nothing in this list matches Sapphire's combination of breadth and price. Anything you move to is either narrower, or costs money, or both. That is worth saying before a list of alternatives rather than after it.
Dyno
The closest free equivalent on the rule-based side, and the most configurable rule engine here: nineteen automod filters including Known Phishing Links, Zalgo Text, Image Spam, Links Cooldown and Sticker Cooldown. The whole engine and the full action ladder, up to Auto Ban and Instant Ban on violation counts, are free. No AI moderation and no per-minute scan cap, because there is nothing being scanned by a model.
Best for: servers whose problems are countable, that want no throughput limit on the checks they rely on.
Carl-bot
The best punishment model in the category: delete, warn, tempmute, mute, timeout, kick, tempban,
ban, message, DM and defer, combinable with commas so delete, tempmute 20m is a single rule.
Its defer action routes ambiguous cases to a channel where moderators vote with reactions, which
is a genuinely different answer to the same problem Sapphire's AI sensitivity settings address.
Automod is free; premium comes via Patreon from £6.50 a month on transferable server slots.
Best for: servers that would rather put humans in the loop than tune a model's sensitivity.
MEE6
Broader on engagement, with levels, economy, giveaways and social alerts, plus eight automod checks and a warning-count escalation ladder. Priced per server at £11.99 a month, £49.99 a year or £89.99 lifetime, with automod included free.
Best for: servers that want engagement features and will pay per server for them.
Wick
A different category and a common companion rather than a replacement. Anti-nuke monitoring, panic mode, backups and restore, quarantine and verification, with a Heat system that lets spam heat decay over time.
Best for: structural risks, raids and rogue admins, which Sapphire's Join Guard only partly covers.
If the problem is the AI scan limit
This is the actual reason most people are here, so it deserves its own section rather than a mention.
Moving from Sapphire to Dyno, Carl-bot or MEE6 does not solve it. Those bots have no scan limit because they have no AI moderation to limit. You would be trading a model that sees ten messages a minute for rule engines that see every message but read none of them.
There are two honest answers.
Pay Sapphire for the Limit Increase plan. If Sapphire covers your needs and the only problem is throughput, buying the thing that raises throughput is the simplest fix, and it keeps everything else you have configured.
Or use a moderation layer with no per-minute cap. Which is what we make, so weigh this accordingly. Supervisor puts every message in a moderated channel through a model, with the constraint being a monthly allowance rather than a per-minute ceiling. It classifies across 16 labels rather than four, works in over 100 languages rather than two fully supported, weighs conversation context for ambiguous messages, and moderates images and video. It is £13.99 a month, or about £4.99 on the three year cycle, billed per account so one subscription covers every server you run.
It is not a Sapphire replacement. Supervisor has three slash commands and none of Sapphire's breadth: no reaction roles, no join roles, no logging suite, no social notifications, no Join Guard. Its actions are Delete, Timeout and Warn, so unlike Sapphire it cannot ban, kick, mute or assign roles, and it cannot attach actions to Discord's native AutoMod the way Sapphire does.
Best for: running alongside Sapphire, keeping its breadth and adding AI coverage without the throughput ceiling.
Discord AutoMod is worth a line here too. It is free, native, and blocks messages before they post, which nothing else can. Sapphire's integration with it is the best in the category, so if you are running Sapphire you should have AutoMod rules configured for it to extend.
Do you actually need to replace Sapphire?
Usually not, and this is the clearest case in the series.
Sapphire is free and broad. Switching means rebuilding reaction roles, join roles, welcome messages, logging configuration across 80-plus log types, social notifications, and your automod conditions and word groups, and in most cases paying for the privilege. Sapphire's word list export helps with the migration, and it does not help with the rest.
Switching makes sense if you need a punishment model Sapphire lacks, or if your structural risk profile calls for a dedicated security bot.
Adding rather than switching makes sense if the scan limit or the category and language coverage is what is failing you. That is the more common situation, and it is why "alternatives" is often the wrong frame for this particular bot.
For developers and platforms
None of these bots help you moderate your own product. If you are building rather than buying, Supervisor has a REST API with SDKs for Python, JavaScript, Go, Rust and Java, plus a Platform API for provisioning moderation to your own users. The API reference has the endpoints and rates.
Whatever you choose, test it on your own content. Paste a message that gets past your current filters into the live demo and see whether it gets caught, or add Supervisor to your server.
